Cadaver study alert! Investigated lumbar multifidus needling safety.
Purpose: Check if dry needle reaches spinal canal.
Cadaver placed in prone. Used 0.3 x 50mm needle, 1cm lateral to T12 spinous process. 22-degree angle with ultrasound guidance.
Result: Needle of that size can penetrate spinal canal. 😱
Should dry needlers fear lumbar multifidus needling? No! 🚫 Caution and safety first.
Considerations:
📏 Needle length
🩹 Insertion depth
🤸♀️ Patient position
↗️ Needle approach
📐 Needle angle
Bonus: If you have diagnostic ultrasound skills, use it! 🤰🔍 Improves safety and accuracy in dry needling. #SafetyFirst
